Jamal has served as an independent director on the board of Lakemore Partners DIFC since 2018.
He began his career in the financial services industry with Citibank Bahrain in 1981, where he worked in foreign exchange and money markets trading and sales. In 1986 he was made Head of Treasury Sales and later moved to London with Citibank in 1987 (after a brief spell with Gulf International Bank) to become part of the investment banking division responsible for fixed income sales to the Middle East region. In 1993, he was appointed Head of UK Sales and later that year as Head of European Sales which included teams based in the UK (covering UK, Nordics and Middle East), Germany, France, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. In 1995 he also became Head of Emerging Markets Sales Europe and appointed as a member of Citibank’s Global Capital Markets Management Committee.
In April 1996, with a desire to refocus his career on the Middle East region, he joined Lehman Brothers London to set up and run Middle East Sales. He officially left Lehman in August 1998, however, went on to represent the firm exclusively, as a Middle East regional consultant, based in Jordan, until the end of 1999. In the meantime, he also founded Al-Naif Consulting, a company focusing on investment banking in various forms including capital raising from institutional investors. His company represented and raised capital for the likes of Allianz Hedge Fund Partners, GLG Partners and Signet Management. The company also acted as advisors in the field of trading and investments to Middle East regional institutions including National Commercial Bank Saudi Arabia, Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait in Bahrain, Housing Bank Jordan, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Abu Dhabi Investment Company (now Invest AD). Over the course of 5 years, the company successfully executed and implemented an array of mandates and established an on-going advisory relationship with these and other institutions.
In April 2009, he joined Credit Suisse as Managing Director, responsible for the Asset Management division in MENA. He was also a member of CS MENA Operating Committee. Prior to that, he was Managing Director at Citi Alternative Investments (CAI), responsible for Middle East institutional coverage.
Previously, he held the position of Managing Partner at Safanad SA from June 2012 where he was responsible for opening the firm’s DIFC operation as well as establishing and growing its investment partners on a global scale. He left Safanad at the end of 2014.
